Are You Interpreting Words Differently?

I always find it interesting that two people can interpret the same words differently. I almost missed meeting up with an old friend because of this.

Her email said, “Let’s meet at our place.” She and I often meet at a parking lot, then drive to our destination together to save finding parking for two cars. I thought this parking lot was “our place.”

When I called to see if she could meet a few minutes earlier, I asked why she wanted to meet at the parking lot since it was farther away from our destination. She said she didn’t mean the parking lot, but meant her house! The “our place” she referenced was her and her husband’s “place,” not her and my “place.” I’m so glad I called and clarified!

Have you experienced interpreting the same words differently?
