Unexpected gift delights new customer

SmashBurgerThere was no signage touting “Free side order for new customers.” Nothing to suggest I’d get a gift.

So imagine my delight upon telling the cashier I was new to Smashburger and him comping me the fries I’d ordered with my burger. Astonished, I said, “Why am I getting free fries?” He said, “Because you’re a new customer and we like to give you something to show we appreciate your giving us a try.”

Wow!

How could you adapt this to your new customers? What small-cost item could you comp them to wow them right off the bat?
